Know Thyself

Mike Yaconelli put it this way: "The me who is reflected in this column is not me. The you reflected in your written response to this column is not you. We are all edited selves -- Reader's Digest versions of our real selves. These huge gaps in our knowing one another allow us to form opinions which are always incomplete and always inaccurate."

My job I guess is to make sure that I communicate who I am and listen carefully to who others are.

So true

I recently saw the movie "Crash" which delves into this question from a racial point of view. It's one of the view movies that provoked every human emotion in me, but it always gave me pause for thought on how we form opinions about that which we have incomplete information about.

And as for who DM is - message coming over loud and clear. And thanks for listening.

Do you think the level of relationship depends on face to face time? It certainly helps as they say on a few percent of communication is the words you use.

But people did use to have pen pals and many couples still treasure their "love letters" right?

You're right about it taking time and I am sure it is much harder to sift a who a person is from what they present on-line - I remember a quote saying that it takes 12 months or so for two lovers to have a relationship rather than an involvement.

But hey, I am learning and growing from our interactions here in blogspace, so for me at this time this counts as something.

It's important to listen with our spirit and not just our head, and to speak from our spirit and not just our head.
