Bananarama

Sometimes I observe people spending more attention on what they say than the way they say it.

Sometimes I wonder if those people consider that what Jesus had to say was more important than the way he said it.

Sometimes I think that what is said conveys less meaning than the way it is said.

I think the two necessarily go hand in hand. Keep in mind that saying a thing is not the objective. The aim is to convey meaning, and saying words is only one of the tools used for that purpose. That's why blogging can be such a communicative quagmire, especially for those whose strength is sarcasm or vocal affectation, or, better yet, a raised eyebrow.

Jeff and I spoke recently about one of his online discussions wherein an attempt at cleverness was completely misinterpreted and resulted in tension all around. He lamented, "If we all had been face to face, no one would have misunderstood me."

So it is with all communication. When I say to you ,"I just saw a cat," you get an image in your head based on the filter of your personal "wiring." Your picture may be a black cat, while someone else pictures a siamese, while all along I was talking about a golden tabby (It should be noted that I despise cats, therefore my tabby likely has a bullet in him).

My comment is longer than your post, and it occurs to me that you were making a simple observation that doesn't require such dissection. At any rate, all that to say this...I agree. lol

That's why I dig your blog. You are always eloquently to the point.

Thanks!

And honestly sometimes I worry that I write too much.
